Welcome To Wreaths For Western Reserve
NATIONALDay OF REMEMBERANCE AND WREATH LAYING IS SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2018
Wreaths for Western Reserve is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to honor and remember the veterans and family members interned at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. We participate in the annual day of Remembrance and Wreath Laying established by Wreaths Across America.
Wreaths Across America has announced this year’s theme as “Be their Witness.” The inspiration is the movie “Taking Chance” which is based on a true life story of U. S. Marine Lt. Colonel Michael Strobl, who escorted the body of a fallen Marine, PFC Chance Phelps back to his hometown in Wyoming from the Iraq War. WAA’s mission is to ensure that the lives of the men and women in uniform are remembered. Karen Worcester, executive director of WAA believes “it is our responsibility as Americans, to be their witness and to share their stories of service and sacrifice with the next generation.”
Wreaths for Western Reserve will continue to remember and honor those hometown heroes and family members whose final resting place is the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. We placed 250 wreaths in our first year and over 14,000 in 2017. The increase is due to the many organizations, companies and citizens who donate, have fundraisers and volunteer to make the placements.
Our goal for 2018 is to place 30,000 wreaths which will enable us to cover all in ground sites and place a wreath at each row of the walls. Please helps us in our efforts by making a purchase or donation and spreading the word to others.
